For Steve Smith Sr., football is more than just a game. Throughout his life, football has acted as a therapist, a distraction, a way out, and a career. But to define Smith Sr. by his illustrious playing career alone would be doing him a huge disservice.
Nothing makes Smith Sr. more proud than his wife Angie, his four children, and the work he does with the Steve Smith Family Foundation. Even though he racked up over 19,000 all-purpose yards – the seventh-most all-time – and built a reputation as one of the most electrifying and fiercest competitors in the NFL, his work off the field has truly left a mark on communities across the country.
With his foundation, Smith Sr. works to spread awareness and offer support for families and individuals dealing with the issues of health, wellness, and domestic violence in the Charlotte and Baltimore areas.
In addition to his charity work, the five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro wide receiver is a prominent figure in the Charlotte community. He was also a member of the “home” team during the 2019 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game hosted in Charlotte, NC, with several other celebrities of Carolina roots.
