Cook CBD for Pets into Dog Treats with Our New Cookbook

Want to cook CBD for pets into treats for your favorite canine? Check out the new CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook with more than 150 recipes for CBD dog treats!

cbdMD’s Paw CBD brand has become a favorite for pet owners everywhere seeking the benefits of CBD for their dogs and cats. But one question customers have been asking is how to cook CBD for pets into treats for their dogs. While we have posted a few CBD dog treat recipes before, now we’re happy to announce that we’ve helped launch a whole cookbook!

Introducing The CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook

The CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook has more than 150 recipes for CBD dog treats of all kinds – baked and frozen, sweet and savory, simple and complex. What they have in common is that they all include safe, pup-pleasing ingredients that are easy to find in stores, like peanut butter, rolled oats, sweet potato, yogurt, bananas, kale, and more. Whatever your best friend likes best, there’s sure to be a recipe they’ll sit up and beg for!

And as a special bonus, each copy includes a guide to a dog’s daily CBD intake based on body weight. That’s why the recipes don’t have a prescribed quantity of CBD in them – you can decide how many drops of CBD oil for dogs and in what concentration you want to put in each recipe. The guide comes in the form of a tear-out bookmark, so you can put it alongside your favorite recipe for easy reference.

Why Make Your Own CBD Dog Treats?

You can, of course, buy CBD oil dog treats already made. We recommend it! But there are many reasons why you might want to make your own dog treats with CBD oil.

You Can Select Your Dog’s Favorite Flavors

Dog treats tend to come in flavors widely loved by most dogs, like peanut butter and turkey. But maybe your furry friend has a passion for strawberries, or carob, or even green stuff. When you’ve got a whole cookbook with dozens of recipes to choose from, you can tailor your treats to the dog’s palate.

You Can Create a Wider Variety of Products

Most CBD dog treats are available online, which tends to limit their composition to formulas that can withstand shipping. Homemade pet treats can be made with fresher and more perishable ingredients, and you can even make frozen “pupsicles” for those hot summer days.

Your Dog Might Have Special Sensitivities

Some dogs have allergies to things like eggs, or nuts, or other common ingredients in mass-produced dog treats. When you make the treats at home, you can be certain that there’s nothing in them that will upset your dog’s system.

You Want to Control Exactly How Much CBD Your Dog Is Taking

CBD treats come in standard concentrations, but maybe you want a little more flexibility. By adding CBD oil to the treats yourself, you can be certain how many drops of CBD oil and in what concentration your hound is taking.

You’re Buying Local

Hey, we get it: even though we ship nationwide, buying food locally is a responsible thing to do for many reasons. So if you don’t happen to live near a great artisanal dog-treat maker, you might have to become one yourself. Pick up the ingredients in your neighborhood farmer’s market and get busy!

It’s Fun

Cooking can be a pleasure, especially for those you love. Even if you’re less than a wiz in the kitchen, The CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook contains simple recipes that are easy and fun to whip up. If you have friends or relatives who like to cook, you can make a party of it!

What Kind of CBD Products Should You Use in CBD Dog Treats?

Our basic canine hemp oil is a must-have since the recipes call for you to add CBD oil to the other ingredients. The oil comes in five different concentrations; generally, you’ll want lower concentrations for smaller dogs and higher concentrations for larger dogs, but every animal has a unique physiology so your dog might need more or less.

If you’re not sure how much CBD your dog should be taking, try administering the tincture to the dog directly every day and watch their behavior over the course of a few weeks. Some dogs respond instantly to CBD, but it also builds up in their system over time with daily use. If you’re still not seeing the results you want, gradually increase the amount of CBD oil in their daily regimen.

Unflavored CBD oil is the most versatile, but if your dog really loves the taste of peanut butter you can also use the peanut butter flavor in the peanutty recipes. Or you can use our CBD infused peanut butter and keep it even simpler (just note that you should use either CBD oil or CBD peanut butter, but not both in the same recipe)!

If your dog is extra nervous, you can try our Calming oil with melatonin and soothing herbs. That only comes in blueberry flavor, however, so you’ll only want to use it in fruity recipes where the flavor fits in. You’ll also probably want to stick to uncooked treats since high heat can damage some of the ingredients.

About Our Publisher

The CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook came about through our partnership with Cider Mill Press, an independent book publisher based in Maine that releases new titles twice a year. Cider Mill releases many cookbooks and guides to food and beverages, along with fun educational works for children and creative reprints of classics. Cider Mill’s edition of the much-loved Christmas poem The Night Before Christmas was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.

Cider Mill found success with an organic dog biscuit cookbook, but the buzz about CBD in the organic and natural-wellness world made the company consider creating CBD-infused variants of those recipes. Since the company lacked in-house CBD experts, it sought a pet CBD company as a partner. We’re proud that Cider Mill chose cbdMD’s Paw brand.

“It was important to partner with a brand we knew we could trust, and we approached Paw CBD based on their reputation and quality in the pet CBD space,” Cider Mill said in a statement. “Their commitment to creating the best CBD products for pets set them apart, and we are delighted with the end result – a beautiful book full of great CBD dog treat recipes that we know dogs and their owners will love.”

A Preview of The CBD Dog Biscuit Cookbook

Our cookbook has more than 150 recipes divided into nine sections based on recipe types. These categories include cookies, frozen treats, veggie recipes, main course, desserts, and snacks for the especially sensitive pooches. Some are quick and easy, while others are more involved. It all depends on what you (and your best friend) prefer.

As noted earlier, the book also provides a guide to CBD serving sizes based on weight. It also provides information and advice about the benefits and possible side effects of CBD for dogs along with a guide for shopping for CBD products.

As a sample, here are two recipes that show the range of the book: one is super simple and frozen, the other baked and much more complex to make. But both are delicious!

Peanut Butter Banana Pupsicles

1 ripe medium banana (mashed)

Sweetie Pie Sweet Potato Pastries

For the dough:

1 c. oat flour

½ c. brown rice flour

¼ c. safflower oil

¼ c. water

1 egg

CBD oil

½ c. water (add slowly

For the filling:

1 c. cooked, mashed sweet potato (or pumpkin)

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tbsp. honey

1 tsp. ground cloves

1 egg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine all dough ingredients except the water together. Add water slowly and mix until a dough forms (if too dry, add more water; too wet, add a bit more flour). You may not need all the water if you reach a good consistency first. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. Use a 2-inch circle cookie cutter (or top of a glass, if you don’t have a circle cookie cutter) to cut into shapes. Thoroughly spray cooking spray into the cups of a mini muffin pan and press each circle down into the cups.

Combine all the filling ingredients together and mix thoroughly. Scoop equal amounts into each of the crusts in the muffin pan.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the edges of the crust are golden brown. Transfer and let cool completely on a wire rack. Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
