South Carolina, The Hemp State?

Applications are flying through South Carolina now that legislation has passed a law allowing Hemp to be grown. There are restrictions though. You can read about those here if you have the time. Essentially, this is starting as a pilot program. Twenty licenses are being offered to twenty applicants. Next year the amount of licenses will increase. One applicant is a mother, who says that after trying multiple doctor-prescribed drugs, she has found that her only way of reducing her daughter’s seizures has been with hemp derived products. CBD oil extracted from hemp has been her daughter’s only hope. In fact, hemp and CBD oil have been the only hope for many in the southern state of South Carolina, although it has not been legal to produce it until now. Using it, however, has been legal. Buyers were forced to purchase on-line and not put any money back into their state. Now, that’s going to change.

There are stipulations. Growers who wish to apply for a license will also undergo a rigorous background check. And, must prove that their hemp farming is for a market and validate that they would have a buyer in place for the harvested hemp. This is bringing hope to manufacturers and small businesses in the local areas of South Carolina. Every part of the hemp plant can be harvested and used for a purpose (none of which include getting ‘high’). Dating back to America’s birth, hemp was used for mulch, fabric and food. Now, it’s used for even more products including cosmetics and nutrient rich oils for health.

US Farm Bill and Its Impact

South Carolina is following in the footsteps of another southern state, Kentucky, that began as part of the 2014 US Farm Bill. The bill essentially allows growers in Kentucky to have ‘industrial hemp’ growth under specific restrictions and regulations. It will still be some time before all states become acclimated again to the reality of hemp’s uses and benefits (much like it took soy quite a while to gain traction). However, this is a step in a healthier direction that is bringing a positive outlook to many who suffer from ailments and use hemp-derived products to remedy them at home.

At cbdMD, we have our own industrial facility and hemp farm in Kentucky. It’s where we cultivate our hybrid processing and bring quality CBD oil to our customers. As hemp use grows, the importance of quality will become more and more imperative when choosing the best CBD oil product for the highest amount of CBD oil benefits.
