Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing Spondylitis Overview

Also known as Bechterew’s Disease, ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory arthritis that affects the spine and other large joints. More than 200,000 people in the U.S. live with ankylosing spondylitis which causes reduced flexibility in the spine due to vertebrae fusing together. Symptoms include back and joint pain, breathing difficulties, and limited flexibility of the spine often leads to a hunched-forward posture; ankylosing spondylitis is also known to affect men more than women.

General Health and Wellness Boost from CBD

Studies have published using CBD as a possible therapeutic option for decreasing anxiety as well as uplifting feelings of well-being. Through indirect activity with receptors found in the stria terminalis, CBD has been shown to help regulate stress responses.

Stimulation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) with cannabinoids like CBD, may help maintain body weight, how our bodies metabolize and control appetite which may lead to a healthier Body Mass Index (BMI). Tests have also demonstrated CBD appears to increase dopamine which is vital for improving mental concentration and management skills.

Case Developments

Published studies show that cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) activation through consistent doses of cannabinoids produces anxiolytic effects which can regulate emotional responses to stress, enhance moods, and offer mental stability. Reports also detail surveys supporting faster insulin levels along with lower waist sizes and insulin resistance with cannabinoid users.
