Endocannabinoid System and Metabolism
Research shows that the CB1 receptor within the endocannabinoid system plays a role in the regulation of body weight, tangential metabolism, and central appetite control. The activation of CB1 receptors decreases urges for palatable foods. Other studies explain that the lower Body Mass Index (BMI) of cannabinoid consumers is from a flexible mismanagement of endocannabinoid signals in the brain. While certain cannabinoids stimulate appetite, constant activity of CB1 receptors gradually reduces their sensitivity; therefore, working inversely and suppressing hunger.
