What Is Microdosing and Is It a Better Way to Take Delta-9?

Have you heard the term microdosing? What is microdosing? Could this be a better way for you to manage your CBD regimen? Might this be the best way for you to consume delta 9 THC products? Let’s take a look at what this microdosing method is and when you might want to use it.

Key points

  • What is microdosing?
  • How do you do microdosing?
  • What are the potential benefits of microdosing?
  • Is microdosing a better way to take delta 9?

What Is Microdosing?

Microdosing involves taking small doses of a potent substance in order to get the benefits of that substance while avoiding potential side effects or unwanted effects. In the case of delta 9 THC or other CBD products, the microdosing method can be “borrowed” as a way to give a boost of benefits between your regular servings.

And if you do it right, microdosing could be a beneficial “trick” to adjust your CBD regimen so that you get the most benefits from the products you are taking.

Benefits of Microdosing

You might think that microdosing is only for those who partake in psychedelic drugs, but this method is growing in popularity in the cannabis and CBD community as a way to achieve more targeted health and wellness objectives. The key thing to remember here is that for cannabis or hemp derivatives, these are small amounts of substances that already are measured to have mild psychoactive effects but not recreational “high” effects.

In other words, this is not a method you’d use to try and achieve a high or to get intoxicated.

We are well aware that cannabis derivatives or hemp derivatives such as delta 9 THC, delta 8 THC, and cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, and CBG all have health and wellness applications. The FDA regulates the amounts of the psychoactive compounds of THC to be so low that they are not potent enough at those levels to produce a high effect. With this in mind, we use these derivatives twice daily, usually, in order to regulate mood, energy levels, and sleep patterns.

For some people, however, there is a lull between taking the morning and evening servings of CBD products. Or, there’s a rise in need that occurs between those servings – and this creates an opportunity for microdosing to be an effective way to target those needs with added cannabinoids right when they are needed most.

One Thing to Consider: CBD and THC “Half Life”

Though the term “half life” typically refers to drugs and pharmaceuticals, it helps to understand how it works so that you can use this knowledge to pace your CBD products.

Like other substances, CBD enters your system at the highest strength when you first take it, then is processed by your bodily systems, and tapers off in strength as time goes on.

When the product reaches its “half strength” it is reaching its “half life” as well. This is the point at which the product in your system has halved and you begin the downward slope of benefits as the rest of the product is metabolized and leaves your body. We use microdosing to help keep the benefits more consistent, especially for those folks with a high metabolic rate or rising needs during specific times of the day.

Reasons to Consider Microdosing

There are many reasons you might consider microdosing your CBD products to get the benefits you need for your body and mind. Here are some scenarios that may help you make that determination.

  • You experience a lull between your regular CBD product servings (morning and night servings).
  • You experience higher stress during a particular time of the day and want a way to get in a CBD boost to help manage those times.
  • You feel delta 9 THC is needed at some parts of your day but not at others based on your body’s natural cycles of sleep and energy levels.

If any of those scenarios apply to you, microdosing may be a good way for you to take delta 9 THC products.

How Do You Do Microdosing?

Take a quarter to a half serving of your preferred CBD product every four to six hours during the day between your regular CBD servings.

This works great using CBD tinctures, but you can incorporate a variety of CBD products in order to design a custom CBD regimen that works best for you. The process works equally well with CBD-only products, full spectrum CBD products, or those you’ve specifically chosen for Delta 9 or other specific forms of THC.

Here’s a good example of how to use microdosing to help your CBD regimen deliver the targeted benefits you need.

Let’s call her Sally. Sally learned about microdosing with a simple Google search: What is microdosing? She’s also educated herself well on CBD products, knows things like the difference between broad spectrum and full spectrum, and has developed a CBD routine that works very well for her.

Sally is a high-energy woman with a demanding job. She doesn’t sleep well at night because the stress of the day seems to linger in her mind when she goes to bed. She wants to sleep better, concentrate better on her job without feeling sluggish or sleepy or “too chill,” and she wants to enjoy her afternoons at home without feeling too amped up from her busy work day.

So, she paces her CBD products like this to get the best benefits right when she needs them:

6:00 am. Sally rises for the day, showers, eats breakfast, drinks her coffee, reads her morning news journals on finance, and takes a half dropper of 750 mg broad spectrum CBD tinctures. She uses broad spectrum CBD during the day because the CBD options with THC in them make her far too calm for her high-demand, high-focus position. Plus, she loves the berry flavor of her tinctures. Sally feels great throughout her morning and gets work done!

Lunchtime: Noon. Sally rarely feels tired after eating her lunch and the afternoons get high-stress for her. She finds that the stress makes it harder for her to sit at her desk and continue working. She paces the floor and loses her train of thought. Afternoon deadlines make her feel pressured and anxious. Sally keeps another product on hand for when this happens: 750 mg full spectrum tinctures with delta 9 THC, of which she takes a quarter dropper after lunch. This way she gets a midday boost of CBD and a little delta 9 THC for added calm.

Late Afternoon: 5:30 pm. If Sally had a stressful day at work, had a rough commute home, or has so much on her mind that watching her favorite show after dinner seems like an exercise in “learning how to just sit and relax,” then Sally turns to her Delta 9 cherry-flavored gummy. She cuts a quarter of the gummy so she gets just 2.5 mg of THC – relaxing but not intoxicating.

This helps Sally to enjoy her evening, let the stress of her workday go, and just enjoy the time alone or with her family.

Bedtime: Sally is feeling more relaxed since she did her microdoses of full spectrum CBD during the day, but sleep has always been hard for Sally. So, for her evening serving of CBD, she swaps out her regular broad spectrum morning routine for a full spectrum one. She takes one 1000 mg full spectrum CBD capsule to get the added help from delta 9 THC. This is her regular evening serving of CBD and she does this every single night to help her sleep more fully and soundly. If she can’t fall asleep well, Sally takes one CBD + melatonin gummy, in addition to her evening CBD full spectrum softgel.

Sally’s regimen ensures that she’s got the benefits of broad spectrum CBD when she needs it and the power of delta 9 THC to curb high-stress times or help her relax after work. Plus, CBD + melatonin helps her get the sleep of her dreams. To save money on her CBD products, Sally signed up for Autoship and takes advantage of CBD bundles to help her save. #BeLikeSally

NOTE: For the best microdosing of delta 9 or other CBD products, make sure they are spaced out by 4-6 hours.

Microdosing Made Simple

The above scenario is a pretty standard way of using microdosing techniques to get the most out of your CBD products. And it works especially well if you love your CBD products and are fairly happy with what you are already doing.

But, meet Bob.

Bob, like Sally, needs added support during the day – but unlike Sally, Bob likes simple. Really simple – or his CBD routine falls apart. Bob is excited to hear about cbdMD’s new product to simplify his microdosing routine.

Bob decides to substitute his microdosing servings with super easy Delta 9 Microdose Capsules by taking one capsule at each of the regular microdosing intervals. #HappyBob

Microdosing Delta 9 THC

Microdosing is an excellent way to take advantage of the potency of delta 9 THC. It’s a fast and easy method to deliver delta 9 benefits, though you may not need these types of added calm all of the time.

Knowing delta 9 is more potent and gives you maximum calming benefits for a CBD product, you can work this into your CBD regimen at the times when you need this added support using the microdosing technique.
