Cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD, is one such cannabinoid. Accounting for about 40 percent of industrial hemp’s genetic makeup, CBD makes up only a portion of CBD oil. The rest is a mixture of other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids – but not all cannabinoids make the cut.

During the filtering process, manufacturers can add or remove substances to the CBD oil formula. This is what makes every company’s CBD products different. It also makes it easy to increase or decrease the levels of particular cannabinoids, creating low, mid, or high potency CBD formulas.

This is also how broad spectrum CBD is developed – by filtering out and removing THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and focusing on the other cannabinoids. A full spectrum CBD product, on the other hand, is refined so that it contains THC, but only so much as is federally legal (0.3 percent by dry weight).

Phytocannabinoids bind with your CB1 receptors, CB2 receptors, or both to influence your body’s various functions.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

The answer to that question depends on what you’re using it for.

There technically is no “highest daily strength of CBD,” so finding the right CBD oil dosage for you can take some trial and error. Especially since there are quite a few factors that go into determining your perfect CBD dosage such as metabolism, bioavailability, and your method of use. CBD gummies, for example, take longer than CBD oil tinctures to go into effect because they have to go through your digestive system first.

Once digested, the cannabinoids enter your bloodstream and go to work helping out your endocannabinoid system.

How much CBD you should take also varies from person to person. Which is to say that 100 mg could affect you differently than someone else based on body composition and how often you ingest CBD. This is because CBD and the other cannabinoids build up in your system over time, meaning the longer you use CBD oil, the greater the benefits you’ll see.

The best strength CBD oil for you is the one that works best for you. But if that were all there was to it, then why do CBD products come in various strengths and dosages? And why are new, high potency CBD products on the rise?

Unfortunately, a portion of all CBD products is lost before it can make it to your bloodstream – it’s all about bioavailability.
