Why Does CBD Dosage Matter?

taking high strength cbd dosage

CBD is becoming common enough nowadays that it’s less of a taboo subject and more widely accepted as a part of your everyday wellness routine. That being said, not everyone knows that CBD can be a bit more complicated than just “pick this up, ingest it, and tada!”

And while there can be a lot to learn, possibly the most important thing of all is to understand how CBD dosages work. Because it can be a bit more complicated than a single number on a product label. Different CBD formulas have different components, which can all have different strengths and concentrations.

Suffice it to say, there can be some information to unpack there, with a boatload of questions that need to be answered, such as:

  • How much CBD should I take?
  • What is the best strength of CBD oil for me?
  • How much CBD do I need to relax?
  • What is the strongest strength of CBD?
  • How much CBD is too much CBD?

What Does “CBD Dosage” Mean?

what cbd dosage means

The terms “CBD dosage” and “CBD strength” generally refer to how much concentrated CBD is included in a particular product. You’ll typically see the CBD strength of the entire product, a single serving, or both listed on the front of the label.

So what strength CBD or CBD dosage should you be looking for? The answer varies from person to person because CBD affects everyone a little differently – and finding the best strength CBD oil for you can take some trial and error.

The “right CBD dosage” for you can also depend upon the specific benefits you’re looking for. If you need help falling asleep at night, then you’ll probably need a bit more CBD than you might use with your morning coffee. There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to CBD.

High Strength CBD and Your Endocannabinoid System

All mammals have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), even you!

Your endocannabinoid system stretches throughout your whole body, influencing things like your appetite, immune system, short-term memory, and so much more. Within your ECS are cannabinoid receptors, which are generally divided into two categories: CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors typically handle the functions of your brain and central nervous system while CB2 receptors focus on your peripheral organs and immune system. But they don’t just work with cannabinoids from the Cannabis sativa plant – your cannabinoid receptors function 24/7 with your endogenous cannabinoids, or endocannabinoids, that your body naturally produces. Your body uses and works with cannabinoids every single day, you just don’t know it.

By introducing average strength Cannabis sativa cannabinoids, or phytocannabinoids, to your body you can receive a number of great benefits from your endocannabinoid system. But imagine the benefits you would receive if you opted for high strength CBD instead.

The funny thing about CBD is that the mg of CBD listed on a product isn’t actually how much CBD your body absorbs with every CBD dosage. This is because while your body does its best, your level of absorption depends on a number of factors such as bioavailability and the method of ingestion, in addition to your diet and metabolism, of course.

Which means that although you may be using something that says it has 10 or 20 mg of CBD per serving, your body is only absorbing a percentage of that.

Why?

The first factor comes down to what kind of CBD you’re using. The two most popular forms of CBD are tinctures and CBD gummies, and your body absorbs each of them differently. CBD gummies have to go through your digestive system before any CBD reaches your bloodstream, while tinctures are absorbed under your tongue and enter your bloodstream immediately.

The second factor has a much simpler explanation: water and oil don’t mix. And since your body is made up of about 60 percent water and cannabinoids prefer fat molecules, not all of the CBD you ingest sticks. Of course, there are a few things you can do to try to raise your natural bioavailability, such as eating high-fat foods right before or after ingesting CBD.

And lastly, the most underrated solution: using high strength CBD products. Because if you will always lose a percentage of CBD due to your bioavailability, you might as well use the best strength CBD oil you can find.

How Much CBD Is Too Much?

The great thing about high strength CBD is that because CBD is so easily concentrated, you can double, triple, or even quadruple the amount of CBD in tinctures or gummies without increasing their size. But is that a good thing?

As it turns out, a lot of studies involved taking upwards of 1500 mg of CBD per day, which is a far cry from the 10 to 50 mg of CBD in most servings. In fact, most bottles of CBD have 1500 mg or less. And since the “toxic” dosage of CBD is 20,000 mg…

It is highly unlikely that you might take too much CBD.

Benefits of High Strength CBD Oil

It may not come as a surprise to hear that high strength CBD oil provides high strength benefits. Shocking, right? As you might expect, the more CBD you use the greater the benefits you will likely see (and more consistently too). This includes a greater sense of calm and relaxation, a bigger mood boost, an even better quality of sleep at night, and so much more.

Aside from the CBD dosage, it’s really not all that different from the standard CBD you know and love. High strength CBD tinctures and gummies come in the same sized package and are used exactly the same as your other CBD products. They just pack a bit more of a punch.

What Is the Strongest Strength of CBD?

There are a few different components that make up the strength of a CBD product, starting with its formula. Broad spectrum, full spectrum CBD, and Delta 9 THC hemp extracts all have CBD in them, so what sets them apart from each other are the additional ingredients. Namely, THC.

The more CBD and THC something contains, the stronger it is. Delta 9 THC gummies are therefore stronger than full spectrum CBD, and full spectrum CBD is stronger than broad spectrum CBD. But CBD doesn’t need to have THC in it to be “high strength CBD.”

At cbdMD, we’ve made sure that you have a range of CBD dosages, or concentrations, to choose from because not everyone wants to (or can) use products with THC. In fact, a fair number of our broad spectrum CBD products are actually made with a higher CBD dosage than our full spectrum line. So even though our full spectrum CBD contains THC, it’s not necessarily “stronger” than broad spectrum products.

Looks can be deceiving, so make sure you double check the label or product page before purchasing. There can be a lot of information to take in, from the CBD formula to the concentration to the CBD oil dosage. All of which may vary, even within a single manufacturer, let alone between various concentrations of a single formula.

Currently, our highest strength CBD oil is our broad spectrum premium CBD oil with 250 mg of CBD per serving and 7500 mg of CBD per bottle, all in one fluid ounce.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best choice for you.

The Best Strength CBD Oil for You

Like we mentioned in the beginning, finding the best strength CBD oil for you can take a fair amount of trial and error. You might even find that using a variety of products is the best option for you, because it allows you to vary your CBD dosages throughout the day.

CBD gummies, tinctures, softgels… There are plenty of options for you to mix and match your CBD wellness routine throughout the day, especially if you take advantage of our various CBD formulas.

Not experiencing the benefits you were hoping for? Don’t sweat it just yet. CBD builds up in your system over time, so don’t worry if it doesn’t feel like you’re seeing all your desired benefits right away. Keep up a steady routine for at least 30 days before increasing your CBD dosage. The longer you use it, the more consistent benefits you’ll see.
